Train Prop assembled from Open railway models in Blender and textured in Substance Painter

I assembled these models from the open railway project in blender where i also unwrapped them

I decided to do 3 different cars to show the diversity of detail I could put into a single model

For the train engine I used a custom painted metal smart material I use 3 layers of this smart material for the yellow black then red paint. I then added a small amount of rust to highlight the wear the engine has gone under and then graffiti and dirt.

On the tanker car I used the same painted metal material and added two new color layers to paint in the detail. I also added the rust and dirt. I used reference photos for the text on the side of the tank.

Like the tanker car I used reference photos to make sure to maintain accuracy in the detailing of the freight car. For this car I made sure to make the siding a mix between red paint and fine rust as is extremely common for this type of car

I also added graffiti onto the cars to add a sense of realism and grit I grunged the graffiti up and added a dirt layer over the top to blend it with the rest of the car

On the tanker car I wanted to add a slight dripping rust effect to the areas water would drip onto or pool mainly just below the top grating as well as where the ladder attaches to the tank

I Repeated the same process of the graffiti and dripping rust to the engine as well as making sure all the turrets/wheels carried a reasonable amount of dirt and wear as you would expect.

Overall This project took about 8 hours from download to rendering a decent portion of that time was assembling the models. Through the use of smart materials I previously created and reference photos the actual texturing and detailing process went smooth
